#A Guide to Actions and Action Tracking in Threaded
Action items are a powerful way to track tasks, responsibilities, and progress within your projects in Threaded. They help teams stay organized, accountable, and on track with their work.
Key Terms:
Action Item - An individual task or responsibility.
Status - Status tracking of an Action Item in Threaded gives you the ability to monitor progress of the action in different states. The status can be any of:
- Not Started
- In Process
- Done
- Blocked
- Archived
Action Types - Threaded has built in categories for organizing and filtering action items, including:
- Design
- Parts
- Tooling
- Process
- People
- Other
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) - A set of instructions for how to complete an operation.
#Creating a New Action Item

Navigate to your project - Open the project where you want to create an action item.

Select the “Actions” item in the top navigation bar OR navigate to an individual node, tool or part where you want to add an action item

Create a new action item - Click the “New Action” button (with a plus icon) to create a new action item.

Fill in the details:
- Title: Enter a clear, descriptive title for your action item
- Type: Select the category that best fits your action (Design, Parts, Tooling, Process, People, or Other)
- Status: Set the initial status (Not Started, In Process, Done, Blocked, or Archived)
- Owner: Assign the action item to a team member
- Due Date: Set a deadline for completion
- Parent: Associate the action item with a specific node in your value stream map or leave it as “Global”
- Notes: Add any additional information or context
Save your action item - The system will automatically save your action item and make it visible to your team.
#Viewing Action Items
You can view action items in two different formats:
Table View: A structured list showing all action items with their key details
Grid View: A Kanban-style board that groups action items by status, type, owner, parent, or date
#Organizing and Filtering
Group by: Choose how to organize your action items (by status, type, owner, parent, or date)
Filter: Narrow down your view by applying filters for status, type, owner, parent, or due date
Track progress: See completion percentages for each group of action items
#Updating Action Items
Open an action item - Click on any action item to view its details
Edit information - Update any field by clicking on it and entering new information
Change status - Update the status to reflect current progress:
- Not Started- Task hasn’t been begun
- In Process- Work is actively being done
- Done- Task has been completed (automatically sets completion date)
- Blocked- Task is blocked by dependencies or issues
- Archived: Task is no longer active
#Using and Managing Action Items
Assign ownership: Change the owner of an action item to reassign responsibility
Automatic notifications: When you assign an action item to someone, they’ll receive an in-app notification and email
Add comments: Use the comment section to collaborate and discuss the action item with your team Track conversations: See all discussions related to the action item in one place
Deleting Action Items: If an action item is no longer needed-
- Open the action item
- Scroll to the bottom
- Click “Delete action item”

Be specific: Write clear, actionable descriptions
Set realistic deadlines: Use due dates to create accountability
Assign ownership: Every action item should have a clear owner
Update regularly: Keep status current to provide accurate progress tracking
Group related items: Use the parent field to associate action items with specific parts of your project
Use comments: Collaborate effectively by discussing details in the comments section
