Search and Mentions

Quickly find anything in your organization and bring the right context into any conversation or instruction.

Search and @mentions are two of the most frequently used tools in Threaded. Search lets you navigate your entire organization instantly, while @mentions let you link objects, notify teammates, and focus the AI Assistant on exactly what you need.

The search bar is accessible from the top of the app at all times. Just start typing to find anything in your organization — Work Instructions, parts, tools, process nodes, procedures, issues, media, and more. Results are returned across all content types, making it the fastest way to navigate a large library without manually browsing folders.

#@Mentions

The @ symbol is how you link objects and people anywhere text is supported in Threaded. Typing @ opens a searchable menu of referenceable objects, with the available options depending on where you are in the app.

#In Work Steps

When writing a work step, @ lets you link:

  • Parts — reference a specific part with quantity or “ref” if not consumed
  • Tools — reference a specific tool required for the step
  • Work Instructions — link to another published Work Instruction
  • Media — link to images, spec sheets, reference drawings, or any other file in your media library

You can also create parts and tools in-line with work steps by typing @, typing the name or number you are wanting to create, and clicking “create part” or “create tool”.

#In Issues and Comments

When writing a comment on an Issue, @ lets you link:

  • Organization Members — notify a specific teammate directly in the conversation. Mentioned members will receive a notification in-app and via email
  • Work Instructions — reference a specific Work Instruction relevant to the issue
  • Parts — reference a specific part (Manufacturing Parts catalog) relevant to the issue
  • Tools — reference a specific tool (Manufacturing Tools catalog) relevant to the issue
  • AI Conversations — link to a relevant AI conversation for additional context

Assigning an Issue to a member also triggers a notification to that member, separate from @mentions.

#In AI Conversations

The AI Assistant supports the richest set of @mention options, allowing you to pin specific objects directly into the conversation context:

  • Organization Members
  • Work Instructions
  • Parts (Manufacturing Parts catalog)
  • Tools (Manufacturing Tools catalog)
  • Issues
  • Process Nodes
  • AI Conversations
  • Media

When you @mention an object in an AI conversation, it is pinned as focused context for that conversation—the AI Assistant has direct access to the referenced object and can analyze, reference, and reason about it specifically. This is the most effective way to get precise, relevant responses from the AI when working on a specific part of your process.

#In Work Instruction Review

Work Instruction release descriptions and review comments support @mentions, allowing you to link relevant Work Instructions, process nodes, parts, tools, or teammates for context and traceability.

#Tips for Using @Mentions Effectively

  • In work steps, use @mentions for parts and tools rather than typing them as free text. Linked references are tracked in the parts and tools catalogs and appear in Work Instruction diffs when you publish, and drive the per-procedure rollup of required parts and tools.
  • In AI conversations, @mention specific procedures or parts before asking questions about them to ensure the AI has the right context.
  • @mentioning a teammate in a comment is the most direct way to bring someone’s attention to a specific issue or discussion without leaving Threaded.
